Why not repair the current buildings?
Replacing aging buildings is a more cost effective use of taxpayer dollars than continuing to repair them.

Eastwood’s middle and high schools have major aging infrastructure needs, including HVAC, roofing, electrical and plumbing systems.

Renovating the existing buildings would cost more than $55 million and extend their life by only about 25 years.

A new school is expected to last 50 years or more.

Approval would also bring approximately $17.65 million in state funding to Eastwood.
Investing in a new school is a better long term use of taxpayer dollars than continuing costly repairs to aging buildings.
How will new funds be used?
The plan prioritizes cost‑effective new construction where appropriate, paired with targeted improvements where renovation still makes sense. If approved, the measure would fund projects reflect more than a year of study, facility tours, and community input:

Construction a new building serving students in grades 5-12

Renovation of Eastwood High School, including:

Transforming the current cafeteria into a community gathering space.

Converting the existing band room into theater storage.

Repurposing the current woodshop into additional district storage.

Converting the existing high school competition gymnasium into the middle school's competition gym.

Reconfiguring the auxiliary gym into flexible practice space, with the potential addition of indoor turf to support a variety of student programs.

REAL TALK - Why is this Levy NEEDED:
The Eastwood Local School Board has approved a plan that will be on the ballot on November 3rd, 2026.
Many of Eastwood Local’s school buildings are decades old and require major repairs or full replacement. Roofs, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure are reaching end‑of‑life, and several buildings no longer meet today’s safety, accessibility, or instructional standards.
How did the district come to this conclusion?
After a multi‑year facilities assessment with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), the district determined that replacing outdated buildings is more cost‑effective than continuing to repair them. The levy provides the local funding needed to begin this long‑term facilities plan.
The Nov. 3, 2026, ballot will include a single issue that combines a property tax bond issue and a 0.5% school district earned income tax. If approved by voters, the issue would provide approximately $77.65 million in local funding toward Eastwood Local Schools' proposed $95.3 million Master Facilities Plan. The remaining approximately $17.65 million would come from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), contingent upon voter approval of the ballot issue.
